What a sad experience for your daughter, Judy ! I can see where this could happen when the kittens were just kept caged, and fed, and nothing else.
I have actually see the same kind of thing happen with puppies when they are just raised in a kennel with no human attention until someone buys them and takes them home.
I know there is a huge fuss about home breeders, however; these dogs and cats are usually raised underfoot in the house, and handled by the family from the time that they are born, so they will be much more socialized than a puppy that was raised in a kennel.
