We've got an 11 lb. MaltiPoo who absolutely loves sleeping under the covers. Is there any way that she could suffocate down there? She usually sleeps between my wife and I and is down there around our hip area and stays there for at least two, three maybe fours before she comes up for air. Should we be worrying at all? Thanks!
On her own, I don't see how she could suffocate as your bodies keep the covers from around her nose. That said, if either of you are heavy sleepers, there is always a possibility, slight as it is, that she could be partially rolled on & just enough time passes to cut her off from the air. I say slight chance as she would struggle & one or both of you would recognize her movements.

I think it's just a personal decision, that I hope any one of us can help with some input.

Best wishes to the 3 of you !
If it's just the covers you are concerned of, that's fine. Some dogs love burrowing. TreeClimber's Terrier loves hiding under the covers. If Peanut had a chance to go under the covers, she probably would have taken advantage of it since she's a terrier.

Like what SweetBeast mentioned, unless you're heavy sleepers and her air gets cut off because she got partially rolled on, we don't see the problem in it.

If in case you're worried of this, you might want to train her to enjoy sleeping in a crate as some dogs love to feel secured in their own safe place. Your bed seems to be the safe place at the moment.
I used to worry about dogs sleeping under the covers but they do seem to be fine. My current dogs sleep in their crates but when I was a child, our family dog slept under my covers or under the covers of my brothers. It depended whose turn it was for our dog but he always slept under our covers. Every morning, he was bright and alert, so if he didn't get enough oxygen all night long, he was still perky and bright anyways.

Perhaps check with your vet. Many dogs sleep under the covers and I don't think it is a health issue but if you wonder, check with your vet.
I don't think the covers would be a problem, as long as they aren't tucked in or something. I'm sure if she was suffocating she would either get out real quick, or she would wake you guys up.
Yeah, I don't see a problem with this either. We had a cat who loved sleeping between people under the covers. When he needed out, he got out.

The smaller the dog, though, I would potentially worry about the dog being smothered by one of the people sleeping in the bed. I'm assuming that the dog would use his or her teeth and make lots of noise if it were being smothered. I'm particularly worried about co-sleeping with babies for the smothering reason, but I think your dog has more natural defenses if there was an issue.

You know how some humans can sleep with their face under the covers no problem? Well maybe you dog is super comfortable in a warm-breathing environment?
I had a dog that loved to sleep under the covers and I was worried. Yes, I think it's something you should concern yourself with because anything can happend throughout the night. I suggest purchasing a comforter that air can travel through; with this purchse, everyone will be happy. Your dog will be able to sleep comfortably under the covers and you'll have the satisfaction of knowing your dog is safe while he/she sleeps.
Hi,

Simply buy a new bed for her and purchased some good quality quilt or doona covers from http://www.elanlinen.com.au/quilt-covers, although they have for humans but you can buy from the kids collection and that will work for your pet.
