I have to ask this question because in my area I have to worry about my dogs every New Years Eve. In my neighborhood they love to just make all sorts of noise at midnight, and some even before midnigh. We have neighbors who fire off guns (yes I know against the law, but tell them that) and other who set off fire crackers, which are also against the law to set off but hey you can buy them. That makes a whole lot of sense doesn't it.
Anyway, this has always spooked our dogs Buddy and Oso. They don't like hearing all this noise that is associated with New Years Eve or New Years day in my area. After all dogs have very sensitive hearing. I was wondering if any of you have this same issue on that night and if its a problem for your beloved Canine.
My dogs seem to deal with it pretty well. I just try to ignore it myself, and if they notice it, I try to calm them down or distract them, but not make a big deal about it.
I'm lucky that they don't get bothered by it though, I have some friends who's dogs get really upset with all the noise.
I lived in a town that allowed fireworks at Halloween. One year, my family and I took care of a neighbor's dog when they went out of town over Halloween. That dog was a golden retriever and the most gentle, easy going dog I have ever encountered. That is, until the fireworks and he went ballistic. We brought him inside to a bathroom that didn't have windows and thus, it was hard to hear what was going on outdoors. We just did our best to keep that dog calm.
We told the neighbors about how their dog could not tolerate the noise of the fireworks and advised them that they are best to stay home with their dog during Halloween or take their dog with them, providing where they go, there isn't any fireworks.
If I lived in an area where fireworks are allowed either on Halloween or New Year's, then perhaps the only choose would be is to be out of town - with my dogs - during that celebration. Or stay indoors with my dogs and try to keep them calm. Most dogs can't tolerate the noise of the fireworks and I really don't blame them. I have chosen to live in an area where fireworks are not allowed.
It looked as if my dog felt all of the excitement that I and my friends had during the New Year Eve, and he felt just great :-) BTW, this is my first post, lol.
My dog was going crazy this New Years, She hates to hear loud noises and gets really upset. I felt bad because she had a restless night that night. She was up all night barking and crying; walking and running around the house like a crazy dog. I'm sad to say but my little dog didn't have a great New Years. She's a princess that likes her peace and quiet.
