You may know that antifreeze is deadly for humans and animals. A puppy from Australian licked some car parts. The owner noticed the dog acting peculiar and getting sick. She took it too the veterinarian. They realized it was antifreeze poisoning.

I didn't know there was a treatment for this. But, they gave the dog alcohol, Vodka to be exact. The Vodka was administered through a drip. It's used to flush out the effects of the toxin.

I guess the alcohol could have been dangerous itself if not given to the dog under medical supervision. They say this treatment is rarely given.

Here's the story:

How interesting so the Vodka actually deluded the anti freeze? Anyway, this story just proves what I already knew, you have to be careful what you have around dogs. I don't care how old the dog is, they can be curious, and they can eat just about anything. I guess you could say dogs are like kids in that respect, they don't understand that something could actually be harmful for them. In my house we are always careful with cleaners, and poisons that we set for ants or rats. We have to make sure these are place in an area where our dogs won't be able to get to.
That is weird. Vodka to flush out antifreeze. Antifreeze can be pretty scary. Good thing the woman was very observant especially since antifreeze is clear and doesn't have a smell.

I bet they were all relieved that the pup's alright now. It's ironic how a Christmas present (Vodka) saved this Christmas present's (puppy's) life
Pafjlh, I agree. Dogs are like toddlers: curious and always putting things in their mouth.

Antifreeze is very scary, Haopee. I have often wondered why they don't add something to it that makes it smell and taste awful. As I understand it, the taste is sweet. Not sure if that is true. I won't taste it to find out. LOL

I wonder if this was a known remedy or something they decided to try as a last resort. I am glad that it worked. Perhaps it will save the lives of others.
