When we have extra money, we hold a party for our dogs. Invited are the children in the neighborhood plus our circle. There are parlor games and prizes for the children. And the food? The real food for humans. And since the birthday dog is the star, we do not allow any dog in the guest list. The last dog party was when our 2 youngest dogs celebrated their birthday (a joint celebration because their birthdays fall one week apart). Aside from the sumptuous food, there was also the entertainment because we hired 2 entertainers for the children. It was really lots of fun.
Yes! My dog and I will usually go out to get ice-cream or get a dog birthday cake. She will be 10 in August and this next one coming up is really important.
My dog will be celebrating her 1st birthday on June 26 and I've been thinking of getting her a small cake and maybe some treats. I found a local online shop that caters to dogs called Whole Pet Kitchen (http://wholepetkitchen.com) and they have a good selection of dog food, dog treats and cakes and cupcakes for special occasions. They're quite affordable and they ship nationwide. I like that can incorporate liver, tuna, turmeric and peanut butter as a part of the dogs' healthy food selection. This ill definitely be good for her.
Yes! I love celebrating my dog's birthday. It is fun for me and of course it is fun for them to get some sweet treats on such a special day. Just spending a few extra dollars that day can go a long way for your dog. Of course I really enjoy my dog's birthday because her birthday is on Halloween! Spooky!
Yesterday is Pipoy's 4th birthday. It was a Sunday but we did not plan on having a big affair. However, we cannot let the day pass without any celebration. We ordered food from the best chicken house and I bought a cake. There was that usual birthday song that we captured in video while the candle on the cake was lighted. And since Pipoy is allergic to chicken, we had ordered fried pork leg which we can share with him. And the cake? That's only for human consumption.

We gave some food to the neighbor who gave us Pipoy when he was a puppy. They were surprised because they thought there was no celebration. Here is the photo last night with Pipoy standing on the table while Barbie and Tisoy are carried.

PS. I'm sorry but it seems that I am not allowed to post a photo in this thread.
No, I've never celebrated my dogs or any pets birthday. My family barely celebrates our own birthday unless you're a kid. The most I will do is give my pets a stocking for Christmas and maybe a present. It sounds like a ton of fun to throw a birthday party but I live in an uptight community. I'm pretty sure they would call me crazy if I invited them over for our dogs to play with. Maybe when I move to the suburbs and become closer friends with neighbors I can try. What kind of cake do you get your dog? Do you have a recipe?
I used to celebrate my dog's birthday more often but I forgot what day it is haha. When I was a kid I had friends with dogs and we'd get together to celebrate their birthdays, it was so much fun. They never had the cake, but they always seemed to have a blast! I still give my dog presents during the holidays, even if it's just a bone. I think I'd probably spoil my dog a lot more if I had the money for it. It's so good to see the happy face of a dog who's just gotten a present, even if it's not something really meaningful for us humans.
We celebrate our Beagle's birthday every year. He is so spoiled though that I feel like every day is essentially his birthday. Since the first year we had him, we always try to give him a special treat on his birthday. There are a few places online that have recipes for dog-appropriate edible cakes. Two separate years we made him a dog cake just for him. He loves it. We also get him presents, of course. He usually gets a new toy or a new collar. We even sing "Happy Birthday" to him because we're goofy like that and he usually tries to sing along with us, as he does with any song I sing.
I do not celebrate my dogs birthday as I understand that he is a dog and only a dog. He might be part of my family, but he isn't human and understand the cultural ritual that is a birthday. If he had one the only thing he would be interested in is the cake, which is bad for him as dogs are not suppose to be eating sugar. They can potentially die from it.

I know there are people out there that do celebrate their dogs birthday. As long as you aren't hurting anyone or infringing another persons liberty or freedom, then go for it. Just don't expect a doggy gift from me. I don't see how a dog can understand a birthday let alone gifts.
