Many older people who live alone in their home or apartment depend on a camera system, or some kind of a pager that they wear around their neck; so in case they fall and can't get back up, or even worse, pass out or have a heart attack or stroke, EMT's can be alerted to come and rescue them. Now, dogs are being tested to be an early alert warning system.
By putting special collars on the dogs so they can monitor the dog's behavior, thy can tell if the dog is acting strangely. The first thing they do is become familiar with the dog's usual behavior, that way they can tell if the dog is not responding in the usual manner.
I think that this would be a great way to help seniors if it works. Many seniors already have pets, so it would maybe be just a matter of fitting them with the special collar, and become familiar with their behavioral patterns.
