It's so easy to get carried away and buy things that aren't really needed and are for your benefit rather than the dogs. I've stopped doing this now and only buy things that they actually need and not what I think they should have. When you look around a pet store you are bombarded with cuteness and it's hard to resist.

My silliest buy was probably a collar and lead for a Jack Russell I once owned long ago (called rather unimaginatively "Jack"). The collar and lead had the words "I Love My Jack Russell" written on them which wasn't too bad until it rained and the dye came out. It left me with ink stained hands and I could only use them on dry days.
I grew up with a pocket toy poodle, My dad bought it for my mom when I was really young, just a few years old. As I grew up, the dog became more mine than anyone's. I'd say the silliest thing my mother bought for that dog was hair bows for its head! It was a male dog and it looked ridiculous having bows on its head. It seemed to know this because he always pawed at the bows until they came off.
Let me see... I think the ones that really stick out as the silliest things I've bought are the toys that don't even last 5 minutes after being played with.

And then there's also the squeaking Chicken. It was a kid's toys and apparently people wanted to make more money out of it so they placed it in a pet store, charge more expensively for it and sell it a dog's toy. Apparently, it was too hard to squeak so the dogs didn't play with it because of that aside from smelling strongly like plastic.
