You are comparing apple with orange. There is very little comparison between a dog and a cat. People like each for different reasons. Many owners of dogs and cats also have different life style at least in the pet sector.

I grew up with dogs, but since having cats after getting married, I prefer cats. They're independent and can be left alone for longer periods of time without worrying about them. They're fine with just a litter box and food and water feeders if you're planning on being away for vacation. You don't have to worry about them having any accidents as long as they've got a litter box in the house. They don't smell bad like dogs either or get dirty like dogs. They're such clean animals.
