A police officer in Mississippi was making a routine safety check at a rest area , when he was attacked by three unknown men with boxcutter knives, for no apparent reason. The men slashed the officer with the knives and were dragging him off into the woods to finish killing him , when he was able to remotely release the K-9 police Dog from his car.
The dog then became the attacker, biting the three men, and allowing the officer to escape and radio for help in arresting the attackers.
These brave dogs are amazing, and well worth the time and effort that the trainers put into working with their K-9 helpers.
The dog was reported to be covered in blood after the incident; so probably he was also being slashed with the knives as he valiantly saved his partners life !

K-9 dogs are truly amazing. I know people in the military that train K-9 dogs for military purposes and it's amazing how much they know. They are really treated as an integral part of the team and recognized as such too.

The loyalty they show is incredible too. The story you shared with us made me think just how much of a wonderful partner a K-9 dog must be for a police officer. Fearless and full of courage. What gratitude the officer must have had to his K-9 partner for saving his life in such a high stress dangerous situation.

You're right - it proves that every penny used on training these dogs is worth it.
I love this story! Thanks for sharing it! I am so sorry that this brave animal was injured, but I'm glad he saved his partner's life! Nothing is more faithful than a dog! K-9s don't get enough credit for all they do!
What a great story. I agree K-9 officers are well worth the time it takes to train them. They not only save lives in incidents like this, but they can be tainted to find people (victim or suspect), find drugs, or bombs and probably so many other things. More K-9 officers might even help reduce the number of people shot for fleeing. It certainly would be better for a suspect to be taken down by a dog than shot down. They can recover from a bite.
What need I say? Where are K9 dogs sourced from? They should be an integral part of security establishments. This story will ever ring in my mind. While man is his own worst enemy, dogs are man's best friend. Its my sincere hope that that particular dog was feted and appropriately rewarded.
I hope the dog is okay. K9 companions have proved over and over how they are vital to our survival. Not only they can be trained as guard dogs, guide dogs, companions and to sniff out missing person, objects (bombs), they're also known to detect illnesses and attacks in people. Their senses are so much higher than our own and can be trained to assist humans in specific needs. I don't think I'll ever be without a furry friend in my house.
