Dog Gives Orangutan Reason to Live
[Image: story4.jpeg]

This is one of the sweetest stories I've read. Click on the link above this photo to see more about it.
This young orangutan was in a severe depression and the zoo officials had lost all hope of him surviving much longer. When they brought in this old, sick dog to be treated on the same day that the orangutan was in the treatment center, there was instant friendship between the two.
That orangutan is going to live a lot longer than the dog. What is going to happen after the dog dies? Will they get him a new one? I don't think the orangutan will take as kindly to a new dog as he did with that one. He's smart enough to know when his old friend is gone and I'm not sure if he would appreciate a new one. Then again, I can also see the exact opposite happening so... I think I'm going to follow this story.
I know, writer, I thought about the pain of loss this poor orangutan is going to suffer again - probably soon. His best friend and reason for living is a very old, sickly dog. Since this sensitive creature seems to have trouble with depression, he will most likely experience an even worse bout of it when this old dog dies. He will perhaps feel like everyone he loves abandons him...
I'll be curious what will happen!
I think what needs to be done is to introduce one more dog into that love match. A young one. Then when the old one dies, the orangutan will still have the young one as a companion. Either that or get the orangutan a mate.
Those are actually really good ideas/solutions for the orangutan, Victor! I think introducing another dog, a young one, would be ideal at this point since he may be a bit too young for having a mate right now. I've no idea when they become sexually active though, but since he seems happy to hang out with a dog, it would be good to get him another canine buddy to become focused on and involved with before his old friend dies.
