I was just wondering since most recently a friend of mine gave her dog a little party. What kind of dog treats or dog food do you feed your dog during their birthdays?

Do you prepare specially made cupcakes or cakes?
Duck,beef or chicken jerkies?
Liver flavored cookies?
An entire steak?

Does your dog get to enjoy their birthday or gotcha day?

I only buy them treats and some new toy but I've never prepared anything special for them. How about you?
I have never given my dog a birthday celebration. When I had Sierra, I thought it might be fun to have a little party with the nieces and nephews over. But, I never did it. Now they are too old to think it amusing.

I do include my dog in our Christmas celebrations. She gets a couple of presents under the tree. It is funny because she seems to know which are hers. She doesn't bother them, but she visits them under the tree.
How coincidental that you should start this thread! Gigi will be 2 years old in 4 days, on October 22nd. My husband and I were just talking about it. He said, "We need to get her a birthday goodie." He's so cute like that. We don't have big celebrations, though, for our pets. We do give them a little extra treat. I think Gigi would love a new Halloween squeaky toy. I still can't believe we've had her in our lives for almost 2 years. Wow! Time really does fly by.
I would do a couple of things for my dog when she was around:

- Get a giant birthday card and have a bunch of people sign it

- Give her a special treat

- Get her presents
We don't celebrate birthdays for our dog. I actually don't even know what day he was born on, so it'd be kind of hard to do that.

We do give gifts on Christmas, though. He gets his favorite treats...and more than usual, too. And he gets a new toy or two. He loves his hedgehogs especially, so we usually try to find a new one with the right squeaker sound in the middle.
I have never celebrated my dogs birthdays or even a gotcha day. I know that some do this for their pets and I find nothing wrong with doing so if its something you like to do. I have bought my dogs things for Christmas such as dog treats as a gift.
We celebrate birthdays. Normally, my parents buy them toys and treats. We get these little doggie cakes from a bakery. It's really cute. Plus, you can eat it too!
No, I don't celebrate my dog's birthday. Actually I don't even celebrate my own birthday. That doesn't mean my dog doesn't get any treats. Treat time is when I get some extra money. Which is quite often. Sometimes like once or twice a week.
Don't know exactly when my female dachshund was born as she had been in several homes before I received her. The previous owners rescued her as she had been neglected before she went there. The previous owners couldn't keep as they had several large dogs. I will be celebrating the first anniversary when I got her, which will be next February. I plan to take a photo of her and give it to the previous owners. They wanted to keep her, but knew they couldn't due to having large dogs. They knew I really love dachshunds and so, they asked if I would like another dachshund. I immediately said Yes!

My male dachshund I had bought at a pet store, which I will never do again. I didn't realize that this pet store was buying puppies from a puppy mill. I do know or at least know what the pet store told me when my male dog was born. I don't celebrate his birthday but the day I bought him. I think that day has more meaning to me and to my dog than the day he was born.
We never did a proper birthday for Roman. We've always wanted to, but we don't know when he's born! We don't have his certificate from the shelter from his previous owners and from the two vets that he's been to, both have different dates. One says October of 1999, and the other says January of 1999. We try to stray towards January because it's always easier to remember being the beginning of the year. But this year, we're going to celebrate it for him. He's going to be 15 years old, which is remarkable!

I want to buy him a cute little cake from the dog store down the street. It's such an expensive place, but it's completely worth it for Roman. He's been through a lot and he deserves the best 15th Birthday.
