I really like PetCo. We just got this store in our town and I have been there a couple of times and their prices are good. They also have a flyer every week or so and you can get some great deal in there as well. They are very clean and always have pet adoptions and I love that! I plan on going again and hope things stay as good as they are now!!
Hope this helps!

I have been in several Petco stores while I was a representative for a pet food company, and shopped in each of them. Between the two, Petco and Petsmart, my preference is for Petco, although I am pleased with both.

I am particularly pleased with the ever increasing inventory of premium cat foods carried by Petco. My cats enjoy variety in wet canned food, and they have a very good selection at Petco. My cats love Petco's house brand of premium cat foods, Soulistic.

Additionally, the store carries several other cat supplies, such as different types of litter, Cosequin, cat beds, and toys.

The staff at Petco is, for the most part, knowledgeable and cordial. Employees must be treated reasonably well because the same people have been there for years.

I read a post on here where the person was not satisfied with the way the fish aquariums were taken care of at PetCo. People have to realize the person rating that store, is rating THAT store he went to, not all Petco's are slack in keeping the fish tank clean~ free of dead fish, and algae.
I think but am not positive that PETCO have different people hired to take care of certain parts of the store. Maybe there is an opening for someone to take care of the aquariums.
I have never been in a dirty or ill kept PETCO.

Petco didn't do much for the adoption of cats. I like them for the supplies and that they have Veterinarian care with an animal clinic there. Their cat food is reasonably priced. Plus I do like to visit the Getcko's every once in a while.

I usually find myself going back and back to petco. Ever since it opened a block from my house I have been the happiest person.
It covers all the needs of my cat and I usually find some interesting toys for her very now and then. It's not an average store to me because
it has really become my lifesaver when it comes to buying all the needs of my pet. I would recommend it to anyone who has doubts.
You will not be dissapointed!

All and all Petco is pretty average.

Pros:

Great service
Friendly employees

Cons:

Dead fish
Dead crickets in containers (no moisture in food/no water supplied)

personally, i think petco should stick to supplies, feeders, and small animals. i have noted a large decline in the fish/reptile/amphibian care. the past few times i have went, their fish tanks were not only overstocked, but full of algae, especially their saltwater tanks. theres usually a few dead fish at the bottom of every tank and the "specialist" that is working usually doesnt notice or care. many of the reptiles i have noticed, are sick or dying. they do not use proper uvb lighting so many of the iguanas, anoles, bearded dragons, and especially the chameleons all have their eyes shut during the day, which means illness.

they also do not supplement with what the animals need. i had rescued a chameleon from there a couple months ago that was nothing but a walking case of metabolic bone disease, even the vet told them to start supplementing properly and yet, the last time i was there, the chameleon were sleeping during the day, skinny, poorly kept, and their skeleton which could be seen through the skin, showed signs of metabolic bone disease. they were feeding them nothing but mealworms, which is highly not recommended, i tried to correct them, but they pushed me to the side and didnt want to hear it.

they also had two tanks stocked full of leopard geckos. and if anyone knows leopard geckos, they like to be in pairs of a male and a couple females, or strictly by gender, but all 30 lizards were mixed together and many showed signs of fighting and malnutrition. the crested geckos were given no place to climb, all they had was a log hut and therefore about 10 of those were piled high around the gauges because they are arboreal.

overall, i am extremely disappointed in the care of the animals in this store, but on a good note, they do have a wide range of animal supplies with decent pricing.
