From pet to palate - remnant - 03-16-2016 Some pets are not in the ordinary category of pets. For example turkey and geese make very good pets around the compound. One of the advantages of these pets is that they serve other purposes just like mainstream pets. For example, ducks are very effective in weeding. But at the end of the day, the pet owner will have to grapple with the fact that their favourite pet was originally meant for meat and economic gain. They will eventually end in the palate. I am at a loss whether this is a moral or ethical issue or I am just being sentimental. RE: From pet to palate - shaylle26 - 03-27-2016 I personally think most people need to have a separation between pets and animals for food. We are very clear with our children from the beginning, this animal is for food, so we are not naming it. We do name our chickens, but they are for eggs only. RE: From pet to palate - maxen57 - 05-11-2016 Since the beginning of time, man has been hunting for food and we will eat anything to survive. Making it a moral or ethical issue just baffles me because there are certain types of animals for eating. Over the course of years, there are those who decided suddenly that some animals have more use than for eating. This is only if you can afford to categorize which animal goes where. But in all honesty, I don't like it when other people from certain countries are imposing their beliefs on others outside their country about which ones they get to eat and which ones are not especially if the country is impoverished. |
