Anaconda Giving Birth - 4sweed - 02-21-2013

At one time in the distant past we had a anaconda in our pet collection. It had been given to my husband in hopes that he could improve its health condition and get it eating on a regular basis again. However, the snake died. During the time we had it I learned about these snakes and about their usual mean temperment, thus I was always careful when the door to it's cage was opened.
Anaconda snakes are found in sub-tropical regions of Peru and Brazil, and Argentina. They live in and near the water and are excellent swimmers. They can grow huge and up to 35 feet long. They are born alive, not hatched from eggs, as pythons are, however, once born they are not protected by their mother and swim off to fend for themselves.
I found this link to a video made by the BBC wildlfe, and narrated by Sir David Attenborough. It shows a wild anaconda giving birth to 15 young within the wetland marshes of northern Argentina. I found the birth process to be quite interesting and informative.
