feeding raw chicken meat and chicken bones - Corzhens - 06-13-2016

First is the chicken bones which they grind to be fed to the dogs. I have consulted this with our vet and she admitted that chicken bones are nutritious and delicious to dogs especially the bones of fried chicken. However, the caveat would depend on the grinder for chicken bones are dangerous and fatal particularly to puppies. When not fully ground, the small chicken bones can harm the throat that's why it is not advisable if you don't have a good grinder.

About the raw chicken meat, it was advocated by the shih tzu club here where some friends are members. Those friends even posted their photos and videos on Facebook, seemingly proud that they are feeding their dogs a very healthy food... raw chicken meat. But it didn't take long before they realized that raw meat would cause a bad odor breath of the dogs. And then an article came out that raw meat is conducive to bacteria and other organisms. So there, they went back to the traditional dog food and cooked food.

Chicken meat is considered a delicacy in my zone and most people would not consider giving the same to their pets unless there is a substantial amount going round. Most people feed their dogs on steak bought from butcheries since cattle are abundant. Bones are usually given for free. Chicken meat would be very okay for dogs with the added advantage that it tends to have fewer diseases as compared to beef and pork in terms of parasites like hookworms and tapeworms. However, there is the issue of wiry bones which might be accidentally swallowed by the animal and this might obstruct the gut. Resulting in internal injuries. I would not consider giving raw chicken meat in areas where avian flu is prevalent.

We always feed raw chicken including all the bones. But NEVER cooked chicken bones. The raw bones are soft and easy for the dog to chew. Cooked bones are hard, sharp, and can perforate the stomach. They also can be choked on. Raw is fantastic cooked super dangerous.
