Bath time with Thor the Thundergod! - amanda509 - 02-28-2013
Well...Thor had peed in his water pan and i hadn't gotten a chance to change it in a few days due to working and planning my trip to florida to go visit Dave (fishbone)
soo...i had some free time this morning and gave the stinky boy a bath along with cleaning his cage! If the water was a tad warmer, i would have been tempted to crawl in with him!Weeeee!

Looks like Thor had a wonderful time in his bath water. Does your bathtub have sliding doors to keep him in? Has he ever wandered off while you cleaned his cage.
We used to put a plastic tub or metal washtub in the big python's cage, so they could soak or bathe, and when they were shedding skin. It seemed to help them remove the dried skin easier after a slightly warm water soak.

we used to have sliding doors before we had our bathroom redone, but now its just curtains. Thor really has no interest in leaving the tub once he's in it, the most he will do is curl up around the faucet if he gets cold, but hes not one to wander, he'd rather climb. He currently has a 16 qt dishpan in his enclosure that he can soak in 24/7.
currently i have 14 animals, and one on the way
10 leopard geckos
1 cave gecko
1 jacksons chameleon
1 panther chameleon
1 columbian boa
and 1 baby crested gecko on the way!

What's the proper water temperature when you bath a snake? Is it just tap water? I know chlorine in the tap water is harmful to the fish. Not sure if it will bother the snake too.
If Thor loves water, he should be spending most of his time in that little pool you set up for him.
Haven't you received the crested gecko yet? It has been quite a while since you won it.

i dont know what the most preferred temp is, but i try and keep my bath water for the animals around 80, but it cools down pretty fast, specially now that it is winter. he loves his water pan
it has been awhile, but the guy said he cannot ship the little gecko until it has been above 65 degrees, and here in PA, it hasnt even been close in the past couple weeks. the farmers almanac says it should be around those temps about mid april.

Very cool Manda, I have to bathe my Dominican regularly too, lol. He is very messy when he poops, lol. I adjust the temp of the water based on the reason for bathing, cleaning, just for fun, bed sheds, trying to encourage defecating, etc...
I'll call you tomorrow so we can get some plans worked out for next week

Thanks for telling me about all your pets. I think the gecko and chameleons are cute, and would make interesting pets.
We had well water so in our case there was no chlorine concern for the pythons.
But a person could put some water in the tub and let it sit over night, in which the chlorine will disapate. And then heat a gallon of spring water or distilled water, the next day to warm up the bath water.

I usually try to keep our bathwater at 80*F too. I have a 5' ball python. The water here is heavily chlorinated so we usually use water conditioner on the water in the tub. I worry about the chlorine drying him out.

I loved seeing the pictures of Thor ie bathtub. I do not have any reptiles anymore. In the past I have had mali euromatics, different kinds of geckos, chameleons (the little green ones), and a couple of different kinds of turtles. My favaorite turtle was a soft shelled one. My grandson has a boa he got when it was about a foot long, and now it is around 6ft long. His mom will not let him put it in her bathtub, so he goes outside and puts it in a small plastic kiddies pool, then sits with it to keep an eye on her.
