The broken windows theory - remnant - 08-26-2016

This theory is one of the tools which pet owners especially those who own dogs should use for the wider benefit of the society. It states something to the effect that if something, a building in this case is well maintained, people will assume that the owner cares for it and even thieves will keep a wide berth. A derelict house will attract vandals seeking to cart away what remains since noone cares for the building anyway. How does this relate to pets? If people teach their kids sympathy and empathy with regard to animals, treating them humanely and restraint against mistreatment, even human rights would be very easy to inculcate in these kids. Societies with high levels of homicide, I believe start their journey to the abyss through inhumane treatment of pets including killings. I usually take exception with those kids who lob missiles at dogs breaking their legs. A little goes a long way.
