Doggy Tricks - 4sweed - 04-06-2013

What kinds of tricks does your dog do? Have you taught him the tricks or has he invented some on his or her own, to get your attention?

I always loved teaching my dogs the standerd sit and lay down, roll over and beg, bark for a treat and stay put until called, lessons or tricks.
But I also had a border collie who loved to climb live oak trees in Florida. And of course I told you all about my dog Goodboy, and his own style of getting out of his dog pen tricks.

So share with us all the tricks your dog knows and loves to perform for his entertainment or yours, with the hope of getting rewarded with a yummy treat.

My chow was trained by my son when she was just 3 months old. She sits on command and stays in place. My son loves to make her sit and behave while he is preparing our chow's meal. She also plays fetch. Recently my son has tried to teach her to roll over but they are not quite there yet.

I had a dog who learned to smile. We simply asked him to "Show your teeth" and call his name. Then he would walk up to you and grin!Big Grin it was hilarious. We knew that it was no coincidence because he did it at the same command. He was the only dog I ever saw do this. When he got old and loss a couple of teeth, he still did it, gums and all!

Another trick he would did was shake our hands at the command, "Give me 5". He did quite a few tricks, but those were my favorite.

Mine doesn't know anything too spectacular, but she will fetch and place a little tennis ball right into your hand. If she misses and the ball lands on the ground, I say "Nooo..." and she'll pick it up and place it in my hand. It's pretty darn cute. Other than that, she sometimes obeys "sit" and "lay down" but I haven't kept up with those commands much so she's a bit rusty on them. It's surprising how many words dogs can pick up on though.
