Playing bird noises on Youtube? - A0130 - 09-04-2013

My bird is a single bird. I didn't get him a mate because I have the time to take him out and spend time with him. However, I've found that he really enjoys responding to bird videos on Youtube. I just look up "lovebird singing" and he sings right along. Often he pecks at my laptop, and watches the screen if I put the video in full screen mode. Is this healthy for him? Could this cause confusion and more loneliness once he realizes they aren't actually there? When I turn the video off, he goes quiet. Does this mean he is now worried about where his "friends" are? Or, could this be beneficial to him? Can he not differentiate between the video and other birds? He also sings to his birdie friends outside the window when I leave it open. Any help would be much appreciated.

I think that this is a great idea ! ! I used to have a Cockatiel and when the weather was nice, she had a tall cage that I kept on the covered back porch, and she loved spending the day outside and watching the other birds out there. She would chirp and try to sing along with them, and it seemed to be really fun for her !
I don't think that it is a whole lot different than when we turn on the music or a music video, and have fun singing along with our favoite songs and artists.
Birds are pretty smart, so she probably can tell that they are not real birds; but even if she can't tell the difference, I still like the idea. I have watched youtube videos of parrots and cockatoos happily bouncing and dancing along with music that the owner was playing, and they really seem to be getting into the music.
So, I say, keep on doing it for her ! !
