Does your dog have "Frito Feet" ?? - Happyflowerlady - 05-07-2014

Often, especially in warm summer weather, a dog will get a yeast infection, and have what is called a "hot spot", a place on his back usually where he is constantly itching and scratching. Along with this, sometimes the ears and ft will be itchy and smelly.
Some people say that the paws smell like cheesy popcorn, or Fritos corn chips.
The yeast feed off of sugary type foods, which also includes most of the cereal grains; another good reason to make sure that your dog food does not have corn as one of the main ingredients.
You can spray apple cider vinegar on the hotspots, and it will dry them up, usually overnight. Dipping your dogs feet into a tub with vinegar and hydrogen peroxide solution will help if he is licking his paws.

In my house, we call them Popcorn Paws!

To smell it on my pup, you have to physically pick up his paws and take a big sniff. It's not as if he drags the smell behind him everywhere he goes. The smell returns fairly quickly after a bath, so I've always kind of assumed that it was a naturally "doggy" smell. I don't put doggy cologne or anything on him, so I've come to expect a certain amount of naturalness from him.

They don't seem to bother him - I've never caught him overly interested in his paws. He doesn't lick or chew on them, so I've never been concerned about them!

As long as they are not bothering him, and he is not licking or digging at his paws; then it seems like something that is not needing any attention. Maybe it is just the smell of his feet. I am pretty sure that if he had a yeast infection , you would be seeing some signs of it, and some unusual behavior.
Popcorn Paws is a cute descriptive name for the smell of his feet, in any case.
