Do you have a dog that thinks it is a cat? - pandabear1991 - 02-25-2015

My female Blue Heeler/Australian Cattle Dog thought she was a cat. It didn't matter which kitty's bed it was, it was her favorite bed to lay in. Not sure why she didn't like her bigger dog bed... But this was always how it was. She also preffered the kitty toys: balls, rattlers, mice, even the mouse on a string. She even did her best to steal their food.

Does your dog like to think it is a cat?

My dog licks herself like a cat most of the time. In fact, I think she and my two kittys run a race to see who can lick themselves the most. It literally makes me crazy when she does. The cats you don't notice when they lick but the dog has this horrible slurping sound that is so irritating. I swear she has been around them too long.

Oh, that is such a cute picture of your dog cuddled up in that little cat bed. Thanks for sharing! Does she get up and leave, when one of your cats want to sleep there? Or does she just keep on sleeping? I can not imagine one of my cats standing for this behavior! lol They would be like, oh no, you need to get up right now! Well, we do not have a dog, yet, but I am seriously considering getting one!

By the way, what type of breed is your dog? She is very pretty!

This sounds a lot like my dog. We already had a cat that was a couple of years old when we got him as a puppy, so I feel like he learned a loot of behavioral characteristics from our cat!

The funniest is when our dog stretches just like a cat does, and also the way he plays is very cat-like too. You can dangle a string in front of him and he will chase it!

Sounds lovely! Is she love eating fish? It will be OK if you want to keep a cat, because they would never fell out !

Ribbon, your post was hilarious! It had me laughing just imagining your dog doing the slurping! When my dog was alive, she was super noisy like that, so your story really struck a chord with me.

My dog does not think he is a cat, but for a long time, he definitely thought he was a rabbit. He would hop around like my kids rabbits and he would eat their food when it was left out for them. It was cute when he was a puppy, but I'm glad he grew out of it. I think it just took us paying a little more attention to him and his training. I think it showed him that it was okay to be the beautiful pup that he is.

This is hilarious! I've only had one dog in my life that acted as if he were a dog. He had the same issue, sleeping in my cat's bed. I had huge fluffy dog beds for all of my dogs, but my Mastiff fought to sleep in the cat's bed no matter what. He took a liking to the cats I had as well and I found that he enjoyed spending time with the kitties rather than going outside with my other two dogs. I caught him eating the cat's food as well. I think he was well aware that he was a dog, but he really enjoyed the luxuries of being a cat. Tongue

At times our Dane does think he is a cat. He always seems to be getting yelled at because he is licking and taking a bath like he is a cat. On top of that, he things he can fit on my lap and lay with me. He is 150lbs. That would be like having a small horse lay on you. And he also does that "chase the light" thing where you get the flashlight out on the wall. It is truly the funniest thing watching a dog this big chase things!

My alaskan Malamute loves getting her butt scratched like a cat. Every time I go to scratch her butt she lifts it up just like a kitty would do. She is also very independent like a cat. She only like to be petted when she wants it or comes and lays on it on her own terms. Now if I try to call her over to lay with me, she gives me that look like "yeah right." Much like a cat would do. She always loves the pen light I bought for her. She chases that thing around like a mad woman. Maybe in another life she was a cat because she certainly has some traits to her.
