If you have a saltwater fish tank, what fish will you get first? - Ram - 02-26-2012 I've never had a saltwater aquarium, but someday I might because some of the saltwater fish are so beautiful. #1 saltwater fish on my must get list is Yellow Tang. Look at this beauty! What would you get if you have a saltwater aquarium? RE: If you have a saltwater fish tank, what fish will you get first? - tdOtjunior - 04-12-2012 Mandarinfish!! I'm a sucker for "Nemo" RE: If you have a saltwater fish tank, what fish will you get first? - Ram - 04-12-2012 OMG! That Mandarinfish looked like a toy on the first sight. Then I was like "WOW awesome"! I have never heard of it before, but now it will definitely be on my wanted list if I get a saltwater aquarium someday. RE: If you have a saltwater fish tank, what fish will you get first? - Thor - 04-27-2012 Keeping saltwater fish can get very expensive. You might need extra equipments such as protein skimmer. It is the high end of the fish keeping hobby, I would not recommend it for beginners or low budget. Yeah, saltwater fish overall are more amazing in my opinion. They are definitely on my wish list. Yellow Tang is one of the better known marine fish in aquarium hobby. Wonder why I have it in my avatar? RE: If you have a saltwater fish tank, what fish will you get first? - Fishbone - 04-28-2012 If & when I ever set up a saltwater aquarium, I want a snowflake moray. It'll probably have to be a type of reef tank, and I'd have to set the whole thing up around him, but they are rather cool. RE: If you have a saltwater fish tank, what fish will you get first? - Ram - 04-29-2012 Snowflake moray looks like a cool big fat fish. I hope it won't always hide in the cave. We want to see them and to show them off to our guests. RE: If you have a saltwater fish tank, what fish will you get first? - Fishbone - 05-05-2012 I've never known anyone with a large snowflake, but I have seen large morays of other types. They seem to have a personality, at least for a fish. I knew someone who had a moray that would come out to see him when he came into the room, and would almost eat out of his hand. There were old videos of a guy who went to the great barrier reef a few times a year, and the same moray would come out to see him. Very odd. Maybe it was used to divers and came out for most divers, but it was a cool thought none the less. RE: If you have a saltwater fish tank, what fish will you get first? - Thor - 05-05-2012 Many fish would actually get a habit of come toward you before the feeding or at least they think you are about to feed them. I have seen a guy with a goldfish pond, every time before the feeding he would do , and the goldfish would all come to him. So whenever you do , the goldfish would come to you too because it is a condition reflex. I tried it too without giving any food, the fish still came. RE: If you have a saltwater fish tank, what fish will you get first? - taylor21 - 02-08-2013 Best saltwater fish according to me is Banggai cardinal which has been over-fished in the wild up to the point of possible extinction. This fish is one of the easiest marine fish which is get to spawn, and raising the babies is a fairly easy task. RE: If you have a saltwater fish tank, what fish will you get first? - Ram - 02-08-2013 Yeah Banggai Cardinal is being over fished. They are easy to breed in captivity. Maybe the cost to catch them from the wild is cheaper than breed and raise them in fish tanks. I'd take tank raised fish any day if they are available, because the wild caught ones are more likely to have parasites with them and they are harder to adopt to captivity environment. RE: If you have a saltwater fish tank, what fish will you get first? - Crazzyy_ - 06-14-2013 When I first bought my saltwater tank, I instantly bought a blue tang, yellow tang and two clowfish! They are beautiful, simply amazing. The Emperor Angelfish was a close follow up, however the tank was very hard to run and look after. If I could have bought any fish however I would surely have chose a Lion fish! Aw well I however don't run the tank anymore.. due to its difficulty to keep. -Paul RE: If you have a saltwater fish tank, what fish will you get first? - BWP - 06-14-2013 I really enjoy looking at clownfish (yes, the Nemo variety) and they are one of the easiest and most popular fish to keep in marine aquariums. I would love to get some (together with their symbiotic sea anemones) as soon as I can afford a marine fish tank. A friend who is in the aquarium business suggested a tank of at least 110L minimum for a small shoal of them, along with other species. What is strange is that there is only a single large female and male pair in every shoal that mates to produce offspring. The rest are all juvenile males. When the dominant female dies, the male changes sex to become female and the next largest male takes his place and all the other males move up the hierarchy. Really interesting mating habits! RE: If you have a saltwater fish tank, what fish will you get first? - TheBrit - 07-01-2013 Depends how experienced a saltwater fishkeeper you are and what the tank was set up to hold. Flicking down through the pics I noticed a manderin dragonette. A very beautiful species and almost impossible to keep in a normal hobbyist tank. Seahorses are another species. Unless kept in a species only tank they are extremely difficult. In a species tank however, providing the right conditions are met they will thrive and can breed in the tank. RE: If you have a saltwater fish tank, what fish will you get first? - cpwebsite - 08-21-2013 Saltwater fish are very interesting and hoping to one day in the near future build my own saltwater aquarium. The first two fish that I want to get in my saltwater aquarium are the two nemo fish, a clownfish, and a blue tang. However, I pretty much like all tangs (achilles, purple, yellow ect.), so those are all on my list too. Those are probably the main saltwater fish that I am really looking forward to getting. However, there are many other saltwater fish out there that I like that I probably do not know the name of yet. One day, One day RE: If you have a saltwater fish tank, what fish will you get first? - TheBrit - 03-16-2014 Unless you are an experienced Marine fishkeeper then the best fish to start with would be damsel fish. There are a large selection of varieties blue-tailed, electric-blue, humbug and dominoes, the list goes on. They are relatively hardy for marine fish allowing you to go through the learning process without, hopefully any tank wipe outs. RE: If you have a saltwater fish tank, what fish will you get first? - Treeca86 - 07-20-2014 I would love to have 2 saltwater tanks. One with a handfish, sort of related to an anglerfish, they walk on their fins, so neat. The other tank with a dogface pufferfish, I love their faces and their spots. The handfish is rarely good with other fish, and the dogface pufferfish is only good with certain fish. |
