Rats attacked my bunny rabbits - Grimp - 05-14-2015

Just recently some rats managed to get into my bunny rabbit and guinea pig hutch in the garden and killed my guinea pig Sad: I found the guinea pig in the morning with half its neck eaten off and both its rear legs severly severed, also it had its eyeballs eaten out of its head. I guess the rabbit managed to defend itself because it was fine, it seemed a little disturbed so I brought it inside the house and now I have it sleeping in travel box at night and let it walk around the house in the day.
I am really upset about this and I dont know what to do in the future, should I bring in a pest exterinator? Shall I leave out some rat poison or some traps?
I have been awake crying for 2 days now as I have emotional issues surrounding abuse and violence, thats why I am asking what to do on this forum as have some social-anxiety and need to make a very precise plan before I make phone calls or go outside. Please can someone give me some advise / make a plan?

Sorry to discover your thread so late. I do not usually visit this part of the forum.

It is truly sad to hear you have lost your guinea pig in such cruel way. Sad

Are you sure it was the doing of rats? It could be other animals. For example, a raccoon, or even a cat. It is unusual for rats to hunt something bigger than themselves or even animals compatible in size.

When you have pets around, it is not a good idea to leave rat poison around. It can backfire. As for traps, you can try.

If I were you, I'd set up a surveillance camera or something like that to monitor the activity in the garden overnight to find out the real killer.

Meanwhile, it is a good idea to keep your pets inside your house.
