Alpacas, are they good pets? - Pocs - 07-31-2012 We are thinking of purchasing two alpacas. We have the yard for it, but our concerns is can they be pets or more like livestock? We already have goats, would they get along and can they be housed together. RE: Alpacas, are they good pets? - Ram - 08-16-2012 Alpacas surely look cute. It is all for a show lol. They make cat kind of pet. If you have food for them, they will come to you. If not, then you will rather stay with other alpacas. Don't expect them to be attention seekers like dogs. They come and go on their own term. You should also be aware that alpacas are herd animals. It is recommended to have minimal 3 in a group. Keep just one is not a good idea. RE: Alpacas, are they good pets? - Pocs - 08-16-2012 I'm familiar with herd animals, we've dealt with that with the fainting and drawf goats. I have also heard that alpaca's spit. Since posting this we have changed gears anyways. We decided that we might be stretching ourselves with more outside animals. We've been thinking of a fish tank. Something inside we can enjoy and no need to be concerned with the outside weather. |
