Cat Food for the Bird - laurasav - 08-13-2012

I recently got a new job. I have to lock up my Bengal cat in the parrot's room to keep her from being attacked by my evil Tonkinese cat while I'm away. So the other day I get home from work and go to let my Bengal out of the parrot room. I noticed her food dish had fine crumbs all around on the floor by it. I was trying to figure out how in the heck that could have happened, like did she puke, but it didn't look like puke - it was very strange! Then on my way back out of the room I noticed my Eclectus bird was sitting on top of the little carrier cage for my Quaker which is on the shelf underneath his big cage, just a few inches from the floor.
I leave the cage door open for my Eclectus to come and go as he pleases. He always (well, usually!) stays on his play stand on top of his cage if he's not inside playing, eating or sleeping. Obviously, he flew down off the cage and then couldn't figure out how to fly back up and spent who knows how many hours on the floor, hanging out with my Bengal cat. Good thing they've always been good buddies! So that's how there came to be all those fine crumbs of her cat food. The poor parrot got hungry and decided to help himself to her food!Big Grin

Congrats on the new job! Big Grin

Haha, I'm glad your Bengal and your Ekkie are such good friends! I wouldn't want to imagine what might happen if Buzzy and my cat were left alone together. When I'm in the same room as them, they ignore each other for the most part, but I've seen the cat giving Buzzy "the eye" on a few occasions.

I was going to say that I hoped your Ekkie enjoyed the cat's food, but if he did, he may want to eat it more often, which probably wouldn't be good for him, lol.

Thanks, jen! The new job is working out well. The ekkie has been flying off his cage more often now, that little bugger. I'm beginning to wonder if I should give him his freedom anymore, but instead keep him locked in his cage! The couple days I've had off I've seen/heard him fly off his cage. The first day he flew into the hallway from his open door, then ran away. When I finally got up to look for him, I didn't see him for awhile. I then remembered how enamored he is of himself, looking in mirrors, so I went out to the entryway of our house, and there he was standing in front of the mirrored coat closet! haha
Now today I was in the kitchen and heard a commotion; my bengal came in looking all excited and hyper, then a few moments later I heard little clawed feet skittering on the floor behind her. Here comes the ekkie! I finished what I was doing, then went into the entryway and both the cat and the bird were in there messing around together! LOL!
