Our Cat Went From Being Psycho To Passive When We Got A Second Cat - ohiotom76 - 08-15-2012

We took in a stray cat a couple years ago, and for like the first year and a half we had her, she would constantly scratch and bite us. Would not let anyone pet her or pick her up. Sometimes she would just randomly jump up at you when you're sitting on the couch and bite/claw you - even if you weren't paying attention to her or doing anything to her. Nobody really liked the cat, she was just "there", lol.

Well a few months ago we took in another stray who was really weak and skinny. As soon as she started eating and getting bigger, her and our first cat started fighting alot. Now this new cat has gotten pretty overweight, and has been bullying our first cat.

As a result she's become very passive, but at the same time has become more friendly with us and is letting us hold her and pet her. But this other cat and her do not get along at all. It was strange to see such a fast change in her personality.

Maybe now she's looking for an ally and is hoping you'll defend her from the new cat! Speaking of the new cat, it's easy for strays to become overweight because they're so afraid each meal might be their last one. For her own good health, you should put her on a diet kind of food and feed only at set times, not "free feed" anymore. Hopefully the two cats will learn to get along better.
