Cats Lack the Ability to Taste Sweetness - haopee - 08-20-2012 I just discovered this fact. No wonder they're so grouchy. According to Dr. Jennifer Larsen, DVM, PhD, DACVN, cats prefer the protein and fatty taste of meat. They also lack the receptors to taste sweet which means they're indifferent to sugars.Lastly, their preferences depend on how the food feels in their mouth. RE: Cats Lack the Ability to Taste Sweetness - Nakhash - 08-21-2012 I had heard this too. And I had thought my cat was trying to steal the filling from my Zingers because she had a sweet tooth. Others told me it was the creamy texture and dairy smell. My figure would benefit immensely if I laced sweet receptors. But I'd probably be pretty darned grouchy too! |
