so i might be inheriting a snake... - amanda509 - 08-30-2012

my mom has a friend with alot of medial problems and she has a pet snake named thor. recently she has told me she needs to find him a home, but i was always told by my mother" no snake sin the house". my moms friends said she would like to trust thor with me, so i asked my mom expecting a no answer...her reply was "if he gets out, your a$$ is grass" ...so i take that as a yes :3 not sure exactly what kind he is, but ill post another thread with updates and pictures!

it happens to be a 5 foot montana red tail boa O.o

Congrats Manda! I just sent you a pm, lol. I've never heard of a red tailed "montana" boa. Could it possibly be a "motley"? With the patterns in the saddles almost squarish? Post some pics when you get him, I'll help you out if you need!

Since when did someone name her pet snake after me the thunder god? Icon_eek

Ok, jokes aside, is it going to be your first snake?
I remember you have said you only have lizards but no snake. Definitely show share some pixels when you the boa move in. Smile

5 foot long? I will say that's a really big jump. So what have you done to prepare for this new addition to your home population? I really have no ideas about snakes. The only thing I can think of, if I were to inherit one, is to get a big aquarium for it. Does that work for snakes?

Awww.

I'm guessing the friend is really close to your mom and that's why she's saying yes now. She really doesn't want a snake, but she doesn't want to cause her friend any undue hardship by saying no any more either.

Please do update us and if you need any help, be sure to ask. There are lots of experts around here to help out. Smile

yep! he is kept in a 40 gallon now which is wayy too small and has stunted his growth because of it, but i just purchased a 100 gallon and stan from a friend to be picked up sunday. all next week ill be getting the tank ready, he needs a bark like substrate, a large bowl of water to soak in, heat, and a hide so he will not be bothered if hes shedding or cranky...all ihave to do now is find room to put this massive tank Wink lol

Are you sure the tank size actually can limit the growth of a snake? Smile
In aquarium hobby, there was also a similar saying with the size of fish but it was proven false. People often think a small sized tank is fine because "they will grow as big as the tank allow", but it is not the case with fish, and we always need to buy proper sized tanks according to the full adult size rather than their current size.

Yeah, go get that 100 gallon. 40 gallon tank is only around 3 feet long. The 5-foot snake can't even stretch fully. Tongue
