Pumpkin to aid digestion of dogs - Evilsprinkles - 09-09-2012 Our experience with Sherlock snaffling cat food, and the sickness/diarrhoea he suffered afterwards, had me researching various methods to help settle his stomach again, once his twenty-four hour fast was up. I was faffing around on Pinterest as I usually do each day, and I came across this: Pumpkin biscuits for dogs Now my other dog Lily, LOVES pumpkin in its raw form. Sherlock, not so much. So the idea of being able to bake it into a palatable recipe for him to eat, was very attractive. I'm going to paste the recipe here, because the site has had a LOT of traffic to it, and so the page sometimes returns errors. The recipe uses brown rice flour, and NOT wheat flour, as dogs can't digest wheat. Quote:Cleo’s Pumpkin Dog Biscuits Please try and visit the site directly, there's a story the blogger has to share along with her recipe. With the coming Halloween season, I'm going to give these a shot for my dogs. RE: Pumpkin to aid digestion.. - Julie - 09-09-2012 My dogs would love that - however, they seem to be able to eat anything and not get sick, so I won't bother. However, I did once have a dog who was very intolerant to most things and was often sick - he would have loved this. i used to give him charcoal tablets to settle his stomach - they worked very well. Thank you for the recipe - I might actually make the dosg some treats like this afterall - maybe it'll stop them eating wild boar poo and coming in with hideous breath ! ! RE: Pumpkin to aid digestion of dogs - MysteriousMommy - 09-10-2012 Thanks for posting! I have issues with diarrhea with my older dog and we give her raw pumpkin from time to time. I've also tried mixing raw pumpkin into my cat's canned food when she has issues. I've never tried baking it into cookies. Thanks again for sharing! RE: Pumpkin to aid digestion of dogs - TreeClimber - 09-10-2012 My previous dog had problems with constipation in her last couple months of life. The veterinarian recommended a table spoon of canned pumpkin (unspiced). It worked like a charm! It might be as helpful baked. But, I would think that if your dog is having digestive issues the less ingredients the better. RE: Pumpkin to aid digestion of dogs - nick87 - 09-23-2012 My dog had digestion issues for the first year we had him, probably because he was switched to adult food from puppy food at too young of an age (which is probably because people assumed he was an adult dog because of his size, but he was actually still a young pup). He would get a spoonful of canned pumpkin in his food, and that helped him out quite a lot. He actually loves eating it, which is surprising. RE: Pumpkin to aid digestion of dogs - maddie - 12-13-2012 My dog loves the sweet taste of pumpkin in her food. Although I was not aware that pumpkin aids digestion because she loves it we keep mixing it with her rice.. Since she doesn't like store bought food.. I try to mash cooked pumpkin to tempt her to eat the packaged food.. she would however lick of the sweetness off the pellets and leave the food alone. Thanks for that wonderful recipe.. looks like choco is going to love it.. She loves brown rice and pumpkin.. Milk is another of her favorites.. This seems healthy and easy to make. I am going to try it as soon as possible. |
