Glucosamine and the Arthritic Kitty - Nakhash - 09-26-2012

I started giving my arthritic 16 year-old cat 500mg of Glucosamine a day starting about 2 weeks ago. Her progress is amazing! They're 1000mg capsules which I open and sprinkle half on a can of wet food mixed well.

She wasn't moving from her bed very often and was no longer leaving the bedroom to walk around the apartment. She was getting crotchety from the discomfort. I'm currently clearing up a financial backlog so the vet is out until the end of the year because I would like to have her checked out and see if there's anything else she needs to remain comfortable and active.

Has anyone else used Glucosamine and gotten really good responses as well?

What are some other OTC or home remedies worth trying for an older cat?

You know, not to long ago I started buying a food with glucosamine in it, mostly for my older maine coon, as she's a big girl, and while not to the extent yet that you described, she was definitely not as mobile as she once was. It has definitely made a difference. I had thought about doing what your doing, but I haven't done enough research to feel comfortable knowing how much I want to give her. There is definitely something to it though.
