Would you keep a kangaroo as a pet? Why? Why not?
So since I live in Australia we cant have lots of the cool stuff you guys in the U.K and U.S can have, but we can however get special licenses to keep native animals (Dingoes, Kangaroos and other animals) So my question is... Would you keep a kangaroo as a pet? Why? Why not?

Heres a video of some cute kangaroos Smile

I'd love to but I think that's impossible, haha! Kangaroos have strong limbs and keeping them as a pet would be dangerous, just like keeping a tiger is. Maybe kangaroos wouldn't bite you but kick you twice as hard! Even though they are dangerous I could just stare at them the whole day - I can't help but to fall in love with those cute animals! Since I don't live near a place that has exotic animals like that, I can only watch them through a screen and get my heart broken because I know I can never pet them. Big Grin

Well, I should saw yes and no. Yes because some people have successfully domesticated them. However, this is the exception rather than the rule. Kangaroos succumb very easily to stress related diseases. And they need alot of space since they can be very large. Add to this the fact that they can cover 40-45 miles per hour when running. Wallabies and kangaroos can also catch diseases very easily from domestic animals and need a very big grassed area to live in and in the company of their own kind.

Kangaroos are meant to be in a wide, open space and we simply don't have that. We live along the highway and a kangaroo will cause chaos if it ever gets out of the yard. I'm not sure about their temperament but I've seen videos of them being aggressive and they may just punch their way out of people. As much as I would like an exotic pet like a kangaroo, there are just so many things to consider first. There are animals for keeping and animals that were meant to be wild.
