RE: Are birds reptiles???
If you trace back far enough, all species might have shared the same common ancestors. Maybe birds were evolved from reptiles, but it took tens millions of years for it to happen. They are no longer the same species nor even in the same category any more.

RE: Are birds reptiles???
This is a GREAT question. Though entirely not pet related, lol!

If you subscribe to the phylogenetic species concept (asthe majority of biologists do now), then the short answer is, yes.

The simple answer is, the phylogenetic species concept revolves around all taxonomy being based on where the taxa split off the chain. Ad ot has been proven that all reptiles (Chelonians, Crocodilians, Squamates, etc), as well as all Avians shared a common ancestor. So whether you want to call them all reptiles or not, they are all connected. They share the same family tree.

The short answer is, what do you define by the word "reptile".   Taxonomical class Reptilia, as it stands now, would have to include birds.   Maybe the whole organization needs to be redone.  So there is a superclass that includes what we now think of as Avians & Reptilians.  This is above my paygrade, lol!  But they are certainly more closely related than was commonly accepted.
