Can pets read human emotions?

I think that animals are well aware of what's going on. I don't think we give them enough credit for how in tune they are with our emotions. My dogs seem to get depressed when I'm depressed, especially when I am crying. I cannot tell you how many times I have experienced my pets cuddling me while I was going through a rough time. I didn't have to call them over to me, they just knew by instinct and laid with me. I think it would be silly to assume that they had no way of sensing our emotions. I believe that they can see as much emotion in us as we can in them.
