So I recently got a new guinea pig and need help naming her. She's a baby abyssinian that i originally was going to name Marie, but after seeing this entertaining article on creative guinea pig names: http://guineapighub.com/guinea-pig-names.html, I decided a common human name is a little too unoriginal.
So I want to start this thread as sort of a think tank for helping me name my guinea pig. All ideas are welcomed! And if you think you have a creative name for your pet, please share, as it might give me some inspiration!
We have had a lot of guinea pigs in the past., and they are the most charming adorable pets! I once had a calico. She had brown, black, and white markings, so I named her Catterpigger. My very first Guinea baby was named Pigmalion after the mythical Greek Pygmalion. I think you will find them to be lovely pets, with low maintenance, but be careful. Sometimes they will nip you.
We have had a variety of them over the years named from Toffee and Fudge and when Fudge died, it became Toffee and Butterscotch. Toffee was toffee coloured and Fudge was a grey and cream mix that was reminiscent of vanilla fudge. We were initially only looking after them for 6 months, guinea pig sitting but they stayed with us until both of them died, some +4 years later, so they already had names when they came to us. Butterscotch was chosen simply because Toffee and something needed a theme!
We have also had Chekov (from the original Star Trek), Jadzia who started off life as Dax until we finally knew her sex. Dax could have gone to Jadzia Dax or Curzon Dax as needed (Deep Space Nine) and her name was chosen with care as a result. We also had Talia from Babylon 5. If you have not guessed we are SciFi fans and choose names after characters whose personalities seemed to fit the guinea pig... Bolshi, shy, retiring, quiet, blond...
I love the sweet or candy names like Toffee or Fudge as mentioned above or Sugar, Milkshake, Gumball, etc.
My cousins have two guinea pigs named after their favorite football teams Uga (University of Georgia) and Falco (Atlanta Falcons) and I love how they expressed their hobbies and interests with the names of their furbabies! Tying together two things they love!
Some other ideas I think are cool are naming after favorite cities, characters or games.
Here's a list of what I might would name a guinea pig if I had one:
Falcor
Lab Rat
Ross
Chewy
Porkchop
Hairy
Huey
When I was a kid, our neighbors kids had three guinea pigs named Huey, Dewey and Louey. I have no idea if they were all male (they could have been all female for all I know!) but I thought the names were cute back then, and I still do now!
I think having any sort of matching names are cute. If I had two guinea pigs I'd probably call them something like Salt and Pepper, or PB and Jelly, or something like that. I know it probably sounds dorky but I just think if it was a duo that names which go together just sound adorable.
Either that or I would give them human names. Like Florence and Alfred or something. It reminds me of an old married couple!
