I just came cross this news about a floating international office "building" is being constructed off California coast in international water. There will not only be office buildings on it for companies to rent, but there will also be living quarters for the workers to rent.
Why?
The reason is the following.
Currently due to the very strict U.S. immigration law, every foreign employee must be issued a work visa by the U.S. government before they are allowed to work in the U.S. The amount of work visa issued each year is capped at a very low number, which means most foreigners who want to work inside the U.S. legally are unable to do so even if they are already hired by a U.S. company.
The whole idea to build this floating office building is for the U.S. companies be able to hire skilled foreign workers who are unable to obtain a work visa.
Basically, it is an incredible new idea to evade the immigration law lol. I can't believe someone came up with it. So they just set up floating offices right outside the 12 nautical miles zone off the coast, and they are officially not "inside" the U.S. thus they do not require a U.S. visa to work there. It is why the floating office building is called "international".
Some pictures.
The actual video for those who have high bandwidth.
