Herpetology Course as a Career?
Do you have an unusual interest for creepy creatures like snakes and frogs? If yes, a career in herpetology could be something worth looking into. The basic requirement to enter into the field is love and respect for amphibians and reptiles. Hard work is important in this field since amphibians and reptiles are not easily visible in the field. Intensive field work is needed to encounter them in their natural habitats. Herpetology is a branch of biological science, especially zoology which deals with the study on amphibians and reptiles. The field draws on many other disciplines of biology including reproductive and developmental biology, physiology, evolution, molecular biology, immunology, ecology, behavior, systematic, biogeography and conservation. Industry analysts are saying that the job prospects for herpetologists are expected to increase from 2008 to 2018 due advancements in the field of biotechnology. This is perhaps the reason as to why professionals working with animals are starting to take herpetology courses with the objective of breaking into this field.

Herpetologists work to understand and classify current species in order to better know how to preserve them for the future. Education also plays a significant role for herpetologists working in a zoo, wildlife preserve setting. Herpetologists help to correct misinformation on reptiles and amphibians a lot of which are brought about by how these creatures are portrayed in mass media -particularly horror and sci-fi films. Through these venues of learning, the general public particularly kids are able to see these cold-blooded creatures in a different light.
