We get a lot of the same excuses at the animal shelter I work at. "Moving and couldn't take him/her" is a big one.
Here's the worst one I've seen so far - Just a few weeks ago, we had a family bring back a cat they had adopted from us because "he wasn't a kitten anymore." Such a sweet, beautiful cat, too! Fortunately, a really nice guy adopted him about a week later.
