Catnip is a part of the mint family and in the right circumstances it can actually become a problem. I grow mine in a large container (the drum of an old washing machine actually) outside so that the roots are contained, it does not grow terifically easy from seed but propagating from cuttings is fairly easy. Yes I do get invaded at times but it's fun to see the little addicts lolling about the lawn. A tea from the catnip can be good for humans too apparently it's good for colds and menstrual cramps but I have no direct knowledge of that
