Hello from earth
I figured I'd continue the thread-title theme Big Grin

Hi, everyone! I've lived in Mexico for the past fifteen years or so, where my family and I, without even meaning to, ended up picking up several stray animals. We've had probably over fifty cats since I was born. Nope, I'm not exaggerating. The most cats we ever had at a time was fourteen: a stray male and two pregnant stray females that gave birth to four and seven kittens respectively. Unfortunately, two of the kittens in the big litter didn't make it past the night.

I almost wrote out a full biography for every animal, but I figure I should keep my introduction brief! I live with two cats and a chihuahua, while my parents have five dogs and two cats—all strays or kids of strays. Needless to say, I love animals, and my pets are my babies.

I'm looking forward to getting to know you all and swapping pet stories!

Hi Coricopat! Welcome to the forum!

Are you serious about "fifty cats"? That's a lot! How big was your place? Even with just 14 cats you've had at one time, how were you able to take care all of them and keep them in order?

Is your chihuahua getting along with your current two cats?
I look forward to see you in the discussions. Wink

RE: Hello from earth
Thank you!

Yes, fifty cats sounds unbelievable. We would take in basically any stray, sometimes already pregnant, and care for them as best as we could. Our home wasn't very big, and most of the cats lived outdoors. This proved to be a mistake—between cars, dogs, and people who put out poison, many of the cats didn't survive. Stray cats and dogs are abundant where I live, and some heartless people can think of no better way of dealing with them other than putting out poisoned food. It's truly terrible.

Naturally, our cats are no longer allowed outdoors. It's simply too dangerous.

As for the fourteen cats, most of the kittens were given to homes in the US once they were weaned. We didn't keep all the cats but tried to find them good homes when we could. One of them lives with me, but she's not quite the kitten anymore—11 years old.

My chihuahua and cats are mostly indifferent to each other. Occasional jealousies arise but since my chihuahua's best friend is another cat (who lives with my parents), there are no real problems. They're all perfectly well-behaved Tongue
