The issue is, some people treat pets like inanimate objects devoid of personality and feelings which is an aberration of monumental proportions. The simple fact is that the only difference between us and animals is that they consist of the soul and body and don't have a spirit. They also have the ability to discern our attitudes towards them and they can tell if one is hospitable or hostile to them. The people who keep animals for their own selfish purposes are themselves efficient in the critical faculties that enable one to have sympathy and empathy for the weaker members of our family who dogs are part of. I have seen some road side sellers of dogs who fail to provide even the bare minimum in terms of basics for their hapless charges. The dogs are kept in the sun for long periods of time on a leash and with no water to drink. There needs to be a paradigm shift in our thought patterns so that at least we humans can sometimes cease to be the centre of attention.
