This broke my heart to read. I was hoping initially that this had happened a while back and the dog had fully recovered, but apparently this dog has just recently been rescued. To make matters worse, the owner only got fined $25 from what I've heard. I wish the dog the best and hope he finds a loving home to spend the rest of his life surrounded by love and comfort.
Tom, I read about that poor German Shepard being chained to a tree for over 4 years , as well. The pictures they showed of the skinny dog were just AWFUL !
That dog was so thin and pitiful looking that you could see just about every bone in his body, and his coat looked like black straw, it was so dry and raggedy. It is flat amazing to me that his neighbors could have lived next to this man for that long and not reported the dog, no matter what stories that he told them to supposedly explain the dogs condition.
Even if he hadn't been starving to death, an animal needs shelter, and not to be left under a tree in the elements, in the cruel heat of summer, and the freezing cold of winter.
I also hope that they are able to place this sad looking animal in a home where he will be cared for and loved.
His eyes speak volumes....
I'm very much saddened by this, because the look in her eyes shows that she was hurt and abused. She was dying. Now that she was placed in the right hands for rehabilation for the right home with loving people, the dog will have chance to heal physically. But those emotional scares will still be there.
.
Dogs need to be inside during horrible weather and not tied up all the time. So very wrong! The neighbors actually should have reported this one. I would have. May the baby recover.
This is truly sad! To me a $25 fine for this is such an outrage! I have always been one to equate animal abuse to child abuse. In both situations you have a defenseless creature depending on you for their needs and to also be loved not harmed. Some may think I'm a bit radical in that view but I do not feel that way. Shows like Animal Cops always brings me to tears of pain and joy (the good parts) as well as to complete anger at what some people do to their pets. They should be arrested in my opinion.
Joseph had a disease which made the dog appear emaciated? I can't believe the owner believed this. Worse yet, I don't think that the man was mentally ill: just cruel. Why do people make up lies like their dog is emaciated? I wonder if this guy just didn't like his dog. I love
German Shepards. They are so smart. When my son was just crawling, I saved a German Shepard and brought him home. He lived across the street, and he was often tied to a pipe in the backyard. There was no way anyone in the house could see him. He was directly in front of my house. Several times I knocked on the neighbor's door to tell them that their dog was caught against a tree because he winded himself around it. Instead of saying "Oh, that's horrible." I always heard the same answer: "That's my son's responsibility." Their son was a young teenager, who didn't want the dog. So I would always untie the dog myself. Finally, I just asked for the dog. I had him for a few days, and then the teenager asked if he could have him back. He then gave him to another neighbor who brought this loving dog to the pound. Even today, I am still upset that he did that. He was so great with my son. He would gingerly walk around him so that he would not step on him when he was in my home. I still miss that smart, loving, and tender German Shepard.
