Yes, I believe they are healthier eating food formulated for them. There are too many things we use in cooking that dogs should not have. Will a plate of table scraps kill a dog outright? No. But I think it harms their overall health and shortens their life.
RE: What happened to "you eat what I eat" with pets?
For generations, my family's dogs and chickens have eaten fresh scraps and whole foods we personally prepare for them. They have all been very healthy and happy. Dogs and chickens, like every other animal, prefer fresh foods. Dry processed food isn't better for anyone, as far as I can tell. Fresh whole food is just more nutritious. I know many people with dogs and chickens, and none of them compare to ours in shiny coats, glossy feathers, or in energy. I listen to my own intuition, learn from my own experience, and ignore food company "scientists". So far so great!

Have you ever used dog food?
How long did your dogs live? I'd like to see some comparison in the life span between the dogs eat table scraps and the ones eat dog food.
