What other things do you like to do during your free time?
Besides my aquariums, I spend a lot of time on
1. watching movies and TV series
I especially like action and science fiction stuff, magic too!
Movies like Terminator, Predator.
TV series such as Stargate SG-1, X-files, Star Trek series.
I have a Netflix account. Even right now as I am out of the country, I use a paid proxy server to watch it. (Netflix does not send data to viewers outside of the U.S. due to copyright issues on certain movies and TV shows). I am paying $10 per month for a fast proxy server located in CA to trick netflix think I am inside the U.S. So I can watch it.
2. I love PC games.
My family thought I am too old for that. In their mind, video games are for kids, but I disagree! Most of my games aren't even rated for kids lol. I used to like MMORPG (Massive Multiplayer Online Role Play Game), but those games require too much time and all of them are more or less the same, so I got bored.
Occasionally, I would have a LAN party at friend's house with a bunch of gamers.
It seems like a lot of my activities revolve around animals!
I do mobile adoptions for a local animal control, as the one I worked for closed down over a year ago. I also work with training SAR dogs, so a great deal of time can be spent with the dogs, or out in the 'field' laying tracks.
I love fishing but don't always seem to have time to do so.
I read, seemingly in any free time I can find.
Movies- I use redbox a lot, renting all types of movies unless they are gory. No slasher types for me, though I do like the older horror (psyco etc) and the stupid big "monster" type movies that are always predictable and have the same plot Otherwise, anything based on a true store, some mushy romance ones- or old faithfuld like the Shawshank Redemption, Glory, Flatliners etc.
A friend of mine does professional photography and I've gotten into helping her quite a bit with setups, lighting, props and mobile work she does when setting up at stores or weddings.
Catering, I work with that as well with friends. I enjoy it but can be overwhelmed in large groups so that isn't something I truely enjoy spending time with in all instances.
One of my dogs is a working cattle dog, so we help friends and family as needed and when our local community has 'heritage day' events we are usually on display. That I enjoy, as both Scout and I can be ourselves working and showing off
Back to photography, I love just taking photos- mostly of nature, and I submit a lot to the local galleries a college near me holds for the community.
I'm an avid gardener, I am also a beekeeper. I make/sell quite a bit of home made honey products, some online- most through the local flea market and farmers market.
Ah, for more action, when with friends- we tend to do a fair ammount of ziplining, spelunking, backpacking and camping.
I love photography, (wildlife, old barns, and landscapes) I shoot archery, and basically anything outdoors.(hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, canoeing)
I also love to do beadwork, crochet, and read a good book!
And Onyx..if you're into spelunking..I think you'll find "wild caving" in South Dakota a blast! Both the Jewel Cave and Wind Cave have tours, but I think the Jewel cave was the best. It really is a once in a life time experience!
I actually took photojournalism class back in the college. So I like photography too, although I am not serious enough to get anything more than a small digital camera. I am using a Canon S95, the whole idea is to be able to carry it in my pocket anywhere I go, even to Friday nights parties. What cameras do you guys use?
I have a canon power shot S5IS and the canon Rebel XTi. I love the power shot since I can get great close ups, and have several lens for my rebel for long shots. (My next treat for myself will be a macro lens for my rebel) I'm by no means an expert on cameras, I have alot of help from someone who is, and is patient enougn with me to answer all my questions..
I'm a huge homebody, so I find a lot of things to do based around the home, mostly the computer when it doesn't come to outings with the munchkins. I adore reading and writing, which is mostly done on the computer, I've been trying to get a little more involved in photography, but I'm a bit of a visually creative dunce when it comes to things like that. I'm a self-proclaimed nerd, and I love anything artsy, but if I need to create something visual myself, such as graphics, paintings, photos, and similar, you'd be better off paying hundreds and hundreds of dollars to an amateur who would still most likely do a better job. Lol.
I also am largely into comic books, movies, and music. Which is where most of the nerd stuff comes in. Spiderman, Batman, Broadway musicals, Tom Lehrer and I'm sure Monty Python fits among all three of those too, somewhere. The list is long...and I have no social life. Heh.
Well, aside from caring for my cats, cleaning up after my cats, adopting out foster cats, TNRing feral cats, going to pet events to educate people about emergency planning for their pets, and sewing catnip toys to sell to support my cats, I guess I could say my hobby is sleeping.
LOL. Actually, I like reading SF, some SF TV and movies, SF and historic costuming, and I'm getting into steam-punk because there's no one doing late Victorian re-enacting. I also do disaster response animal sheltering with RedRover Responders (formerly United Animal Nations Emergency Animal Rescue Service).
Like many of you,i'm fond of watching movies, such as "Independence day","War of the worlds","How to train your dragon","Dispicable me","Iron man" and so on.I still have many hobbies, play badmiton and table tennis, which i usually do when i stay in school. And i also like going outside with my friends to do some meaningful things. When i was a freshman,my friends and me (we joined the same social group for commonweal) went to some famous universities in our country to help more people to pay attention to disadvantaged group and to eliminate biases of those HIV patients and so on.I hope i can make more week people to feel love from others.
For social activities,i often take part in some performance at parties or attend lecture competions and handwriting competions. And some interesting activities BBQ,this Saturday i will have a BBQ activity with my friends and my favorite professors lol.I'm looking forward it.
In addition,i also like go hiking and singing and dancing and reading good book.
In a word,my hobbies are innumerable lol.Don't you think i'm a richly colorful girl?
Well,it doesn't mean that i do all things in one day or two days etc.It means that my life full of happiness and excitement, because i won't feel tired of life. When sometimes i come across "rainy days" at work or study or emotion,i can find other ways (my other hobbies)to relax myself and easily to back to my normal life. What's more,i can make different friends.Last weekend, after the BBQ,i went to play table tennis with my foreign friends in the university gym.It was fun.I also have a better understanding with my friends now, which is so glorious. But surely,i will put important thing in the first, when i finish my homework,i can do other favorite things. To tell you the truth,i'm a girl with more energy for my favorites.See,my happy faces, smile

The one important fact about we humans is that the more we keep ourselves active, the more energy we actually get. The less we keep ourselves active, the weaker we become physically over time.
It is said that some retired people only "last for a few years" after the retirement even though they were perfectly fine upon retirement, because all the sudden they are much less active which is actually bad for health.
Certain hobbies not only can keep ourselves active and physically healthy, but also keep us happy. We get to live longer after all this.
I was doing great in retirement! It's too much work on the house, too many hours on the computer, too many cats to take care of, not enough sleep, heat, food, or money, and the threat of losing it all if I don't go find another job; THAT'S what wears you out! I can't take the late nights like i could when I was younger.
Well, I'm admittedly a nerd. As well as enjoying films and TV, I also love animation, particularly Japanese animation. I'm also a big fan of video games myself, and I'm learning to make my own. I hope to have made two Flash games by the end of this year. Since they'll be my first two games I don't expect to make a lot of money from them, but I'll see how things go. I like to travel but I have very little money lately.
My favourite colour is green, my favourite number is 19.
90% of my hobbies evolve around my pets, but a few do not i LOVE to fish, kayak, camp, pretend drag race, horseback ride, photography, art, and 3d animation.
Where to begin my first hobby would be movies and films. I have my own movie library which currently houses over 600 titles and I am always on the lookout to add to the collection. I love to cook and invent my own recipes for everyone including my pets. I make my own doggy biscuits and jerky. Crafts, love them. I love the feeling of creating something by your own hands and having someone else appreciate and enjoy it. Walks with my boys is something I consider a hobby. We are always on the lookout for pet friendly locations to explore and discover.
I no longer believe in hobbies because it hasn't made me any money and times are hard right now. I enjoy writing so I turned that hobby/talent into income. I am now a freelance writer and a paid blogger. For many years, I have relished the idea of being on the computer and conducting research on anything--I love to learn new things; I turned that into revenue as well and I am now an independent contractor that works from home on the computer.

600 movies?
That's a really big collection. One time I heard someone have had over 300 video games and I thought it was a lot. Over 600 movies is more impressive.
I do not collect movies myself. The only a few DVDs I have were gifts, although I spend a lot of my time watching movies on Netflix.
Other than my pets and my son (although I don't really consider either "hobbies"), I love reading sci-fi/fantasy books as well as classics. I'm also a big fan of photography (I have a Nikon D3000) and I've even sold a couple of my photographs, I love fishing and being outside, painting, drawing, and making spiders out of beads (which I've also sold a number of.) Although I don't do it much anymore, I like playing computer games such as Guild Wars, a MMORPG. When I'm doing any of these things, I like kicking back and relaxing with a good sci-fi (Doctor Who and Star Trek are my favorites) or horror movie.
Other than going for walks with my dog, I like going for bicycle rides. It feels really great to go to this big park I have near my house and ride freely without having to mind cars. I also do swimming, it's a great way to relax after a long and stressful day, plus it's good for you, because you do some exercise. I have just bought an harmonica and want to start learning how to play it, because I really like the sound of it, and have been listening to some blues music lately.
I mostly just browse the internet. I use Wikipedia's "random article" function to go to all sorts of articles. I then just read whatever I feel like. I find it relaxing for some reason. I tend to just skim through the longer articles and read through the smaller ones. I do something similar on Youtube too. I just search for something, watch one of the results and then watch something from the "related videos" part. I keep doing so and I always end up somewhere unexpected! A lot of the videos are complete nonsense to be honest. I think some of them might even have been posted by accident: they look as if someone's mobile telephone switched itself on and mistakenly uploaded the video because the wrong button was pressed. Anyway, I find all the random rubbish I read and see soothing. I think it helps take my mind off things. It means I do not think about anything except what I am looking at. Most of my hobbies do seem to revolve largely around the internet! I should probably try to go outside more! Oh well, maybe next time...
I enjoy doing volunteer work in my local community and I like photography (I have a Sony Digital Mavica) take pictures on floppy drive disks. Love doing nature, but also enjoy old historical buildings and places. I have been creating historical postcards for the town in which I live and surrounding communities.
I also love sewing and woodburning. Stamp collecting and jigsaw puzzles. Love watching movies, most drama and documentary type films. I do recycling and ham radio. Enjoy learning new things and take collage courses for fun. I like cooking and gardening, and writing non-fiction.
