new additions!
well, i apologize for having no pics, but once i refind the two new ones and sneek up on them, ill snap a few shots real quick Wink

but today my boyfriend and i went up to the quarry to shoot our newly made potato launcher (which didnt work btw -.-) we were filling our ammo (soda bottles) with water when we found two northern green frogs, one large one, one smaller one, probably a mating pair, the smaller one had a deformity, it was missing one of its front legs Sad we scooped both of them into our empty cooler and relocated them to our oriental pond where our old frog lived for many years before he passed. they would have been northern water snake food if they had stayed, they have everything they need where they are now, plenty of cover, water, tons of food, and soft ground to hibernate in over winter :3 im soo excited to have frogs again!!

like i said, pics to come!!!

Wow that's awesome!! I can see how you would want to rescue the one with a deformity, he has less of a chance against the northerns Sad I love it when I hear about any animal that is helped, especially a "handicap" one.

Congratz on your two northern green frogs. You definitely owe us the actual photo. Smile Look forward to meet them.
Please don't forget to have a snapshot of your "oriental pond" too. Big Grin

RE: new additions!
Cute little fellow you have there. Are both frogs in the photos? I don't see the one with a missing front leg you mentioned.

I have some questions about your Koi pond.
How long have you had these cool looking koi?
What kind of filter system are you running for the pond?
What food do you feed your Koi?
Is it in your backyard? Smile

I want to have a nice Koi pond too. Someday when I have a huge backyard lol.

nope, didn't get pics of both, just the bigger one, not sure where the smaller one got to, will try to find it today Smile

we've had the koi for about 6 years now, the first winter, our pond was too shallow, so we had to take them out and keep them in a fishtank till the weather got better, but then we redid it and made it deeper, so now we just use a heating ring and they stay in year round. we actually got them for free from someone who was tearing their pond down.

its just a normal filter system with a fountain and also pumps water to the top portion for the waterfall, cant think of the brand at the moment. we also run a uv filter which keeps it crystal clear.

we feed them regular koi pellets that we get from the local garden store lol. they also eat bugs and stuff that we throw in there along with watermelon, they love it!!

yep, right in the backyard :3 we will be expanding next year and it will be huge!

I loved seeing the photos of your pond with the koi fish and the frog enjoying some sun on the big rock. He looks like he should have a crown on his head - Frog Prince! LOL! I hope you found the littler handicapped frog - hopefully nothing happened to her! You've given them a very nice, ideal home - great job! Yesterday I was just leaving the house to join the hubby waiting for me in the car, when something on the threshold caught my eye and I screamed just because I was startled. It was a medium sized green frog just sitting there - one tiny hop and he'd have been in the house. He kept sitting there until hubby came over and made him hop away into the grass. We often get toads up from the lake, I guess, but this is the first frog that has come to visit!

Your pond looks awesome Manda! And good luck with the frogs. I have to agree with everyone else, I'm jealous of the pond. That's something I've always wanted. Smile

Hey Manda, do you mean the filter system is a part of the fountain and the waterfall? I have never had a pond before. Smile

yep, when the filter sucks up water, it releases half out of the fountain and the rest goes to the top of the waterfall Smile
