The good ting here is that the dog food itself was not contaminated, only the bags. It seems like we have a lot of occasions of dog and cat food either having salmonella, or some other ingredient that is contaminated, or just does not even belong in pet food.
None of the brands can be excluded from this, becasue we have had reports of contamination of some of the really expensive brands of dog food, and not just the "bargain brands" of food.
About all that a person can do is look online or on the news for information that a certain brand or type of pet food is not safe to feed your pet.
We have had a lot of re-calls of food that is meant for people to eat as well. That food is recalled, and then usually sold to the dog food companies, which re-cook it to kill the harmful bacteria, and then turn it into dog food.
Sometimes , it is simply cooked again and used in canned foods (like chile con carne or beef stew) that we ourselves eat.
