We have had a lot of re-calls of food that is meant for people to eat as well. That food is recalled, and then usually sold to the dog food companies, which re-cook it to kill the harmful bacteria, and then turn it into dog food.
Sometimes , it is simply cooked again and used in canned foods (like chile con carne or beef stew) that we ourselves eat.

Yeah. And good to note that FDA and media were always on their toes to keep the public aware and well informed.
