VJNatale, your cat making "whistling sounds" really cracks me up. You should make a sound recording of her! LOL And I'm also surprised she doesn't wake herself up. I know if I happen to lay on my back, I usually end up snoring and I always wake myself up, with even the most delicate of snores! haha
Your cat brings to my mind the Three Stooges and some of those shows where they're snoring so loud and funny! Maybe your cat has been watching some of those old shows and has decided to copy the noise!
