There is a mountain resort that we go to for camping fun and sometimes we stay overnight, sleeping in tents. We usually bring our dogs because the resort is fenced and they can be let loose (with supervision, of course). Even if there were other campers, our dogs behave pretty well except for Barbie, our pekingese who seems to hate children. At the sound of a child's voice, expect Barbie to be alert and she would certainly rush upon seeing the child. But in fairness to Barbie, she doesn't bite. Maybe it's just in her nature not to be comfortable with children.
In times like that, it's a great time of bonding for me and my dogs. Imagine at night, we are huddled together in one small tent - me and my husband plus our 2 dogs. Inside the tent, it doesn't matter if it rains for as long as we are not getting wet then it's still fun even if we cannot sleep with the roar of thunder. By the way, the thunder is Barbie's nemesis. She is scared of the sound and truly stressed for sometimes she involuntarily urinates or defecates when the thunder is incessant.
I've never actually taken my dog camping because there aren't many safe camping places in my area, but I think my dog would love it. I've taken her to farms and she had the most fun I've ever seen. It's sad that I live in an apartment and don't always have the time to talk my dogs for walks, so whenever I have the chance to give her some time with nature, I do it. It's a small price to pay for your dog's happiness. Everyone deserves to run around and have fun haha
We use to take our dog camping all the time. He was a huge Pitbull, and because our style of camping is in remote beach areas, he had free reign to go where he wanted and catch any wild birds. It was really neat to see, as our dog was happy not to be on a leash and ran where ever his heart desired.
I don't think camping was the same without him. He would sleep next to the fire and watch over us during the night. Again, no leashes or fences to keep him tied down. He was free to roam and hunt as he pleased.
