Is your cat more active at night?
Most species in the cat family are night time hunters. They would sleep through the day most of the time and go out to hunt in the evening. It is also said that they can see more clear in the dark than in the daylight. Hunting in the dark also gives them an edge over their prey.
Well, once I'm asleep I would not be aware of the thundering herd upstairs. The cat that sleeps with me is quiet UNTIL she knows I'm awake, and then she lays ON TOP of me to get my attantion (and food).
Being a heavy sleeper has its advantage but our two cats typical choose the time just right after we put our little one down to sleep when they begin to wrestle with each other. Running from room to room, meowing loudly and generally causing a lot of noise. At night, no idea until one of them wants to wake me up by sitting on top of me and meowing right in my face.
So you actually leave your door open during your sleep. I wouldn't do that. In fact, I lock up my door from the inside at night. Never know who is going to sneak attack on you in your dreams. :p
Oh man! My cats (sisters <3) go nuts in the middle of the night running around chasing each other. I have an older male cat though that in the middle of the day will run laps in the hallway for no reason whatsoever. He looks so focused when he does it too.
Yep, we do leave the door open and in fact both of them don't bother use all that much. They have their favorite spots to sleep throughout the house. Sometimes we have to look for them as we haven't seen one or the other for over an hour or more. Shake the treat bag and they both appear quickly.
I am not too sure what my cat does at night but there have been plenty of times I went to sleep either during the day or at night and woke up to a mess in the living room. So maybe he just waits for me to go to sleep to get into trouble! lol
My 3 pure white cats (siblings) sleep all day and evening. They are active from roughly midnight to 7am.
The pure black cat (not related) is active all throughout the day and crashes at night. But she does get active in the early morning when the others are.
We live in a small house so when they get to playing, it sounds like a herd of elephants romping around.
My three cats all settle down and go to sleep when we do. They sleep most of the day too. They're very lazy. My Tonkinese sleeps under the covers, curled up against me, all night. They have active romping in the morning and in the evening.
The three cats I had before these, were pretty much the same. There was one cat that was active sometimes during the night though. He also was seriously annoying in the morning. He would try very hard to wake me up (I just kept pretending I was asleep!), and then sometimes he'd lay right by my face, staring at me. Or he'd sit on my chest and stare at me. Or if he was very determined to get me up, he'd go on my dresser and knock things off until I got up.
It varies from time to time. Our cats are now respectful of us and permit us to sleep at night. However, it wasn't always that way and it still occurs on occasion.
At night, they would chase each other, chase after balls and sometimes even meow. Other than that, they would sleep with us at night. They now sleep throughout the night and be up with us during the day.
One cute thing our one cat does is waiting by our bed early in the morning and once the alarm goes off he will start meowing if the bowl is empty. What amazing creatures!
My cat has pretty much learned to sleep with our sleeping schedule. It didn't take him long to learn that if he wanted attention he wasn't getting it at night. Every once in awhile he will find a bug or some other plaything and wake us up at night, but not often.
It definitely seems that my cats' favorite hobby is to wait until about four in the morning and then run from one end of the house to the other, knocking things over and terrorizing everything in their paths. For some unknown reason it seems that they get this random burst of energy that just has to be let out. After about thirty minutes of driving everyone insane, they usually settle down and venture back to bed.
My kitty, Oscar, seems to be more active at night in my opinion, though I swear I think his personal schedule moreso is "let me be up and about while the human-man is trying to sleep or very grouchy!". The worst thing he does late at night is that he will meow non-stop outside my door at 2 or 3 am and finally I will get up, open the door, let him in and guess what? He meows to go out if I close the door.
And yes I make sure he has food in his dish and is watered. I think he just likes tormenting me when I want to sleep. I still love him though
My two sleep at night. We go to bed about 10 pm, Serendipity is the first one out. Sometimes I'll be on the computer and Allie, the baby, doesn't lay down until I do. She's afraid I might get up and go to the bathroom without her I think. The apron strings are very short with this one and I don't think they will ever be cut.
Once I lay down she lays down next to me and they both stay in bed all night EXCEPT once in a blue moon Allie will get up and climb up my clothes to the top shelf of the closet and knock things around until I get up, get the step stool, bring Baster down under protest and put her back in bed with me. It's the only time she gets more than 3 ft away from. Not sure, but I suspect when she does that she's heard a mouse in the attack.
For those that haven't seen an explanation of my baby's name, It's Alabaster. She is all white, Persian. I call her Allie but when she's in trouble I call her Baster.
