Star  Do You Give Your Cat Vitamins?
Do you give your cat any kind of vitamins? And if so, in what form is it given? A few years ago we had gotten a spray vitamin that got sprayed over the food but at the time I ended up thinking it may have been a gimmick so we didn't continue with it. Are spray vitamins valid or do they even still exist?

If you give your cat vitamins, is it because they're not eating properly or just an addition to the adequate food they're getting? Did you choose it yourself or did a vet suggest it? I know that's a lot of questions, but I really want to keep our baby as healthy as possible and hearing from others about things like this is often the best way to make these decisions. Help

RE: Do You Give Your Cat Vitamins?
If I remember correctly, we used to give our cat various vitamins and supplements. However, we had to conceal them in her food. Otherwise, she would refuse to eat them. If she did find them, then she tended to spit them out or leave them at the side. When we wanted to give her "oil" based supplements (such as cod liver oil) then we would burst the capsule and drain the oil over her food. For pills and tablets, we tended to either wrap or bury them in other foods. For example, we would put down one layer of her food, place the pill on top and then put the rest on top. Some of the pills were sufficiently small that they could just be "pushed" into a piece of food so that she would eat both at the same time. For the larger tablets, we sometimes split them or ground them up so that she would take them. These tricks were not always successful though and occasionally we would need to place the pill several times before it was eaten. I am not sure why she did not like the pills. However, I suspect that because they had very little smell, were small and hard that she probably thought they were stones.

RE: Do You Give Your Cat Vitamins?
My Vet prescribed vitamins for both my cat and my dog. He said that most dry pet foods which is the type I serve my pets don't have enough nutrition. It's liquid form and I put some in a syringe that DOES NOT have a needle. I position it at the side of the mouth of my pet when I deliver the dose.

When my cats were still kittens, I gave them vitamins called LC-vit. It's a supplement to make kittens eat more and have stronger immune systems. It makes the fur look smoother and shinier, too. This was prescribed by our vet. However, because LC-vit is somehow on the steep side, and I had three kittens to take care of. I started giving them vitamins for babies called Tiki-Tiki. I asked the vet if this was dangerous, but he said that it was okay. By the way, LC-Vit is in syrup form. I give my cats this vitamin via a dropper/syringe.

RE: Do You Give Your Cat Vitamins?
I use a liquid vitamin for my pets. I don't have any cats right now, but this seemed to work as good as any other vitamins that I tried. Even the little ones that were supposed to be tasty to the pet often don't get eaten. The liquid ones will stir right into a dab of canned cat or dog food, and they usually will eat it right up along with the food.
I also give my cats and dogs brewers yeast tablets. Once they have tried the yeast tablet, most animals actually like the taste, and will think it is a treat that you are giving them. In order to get the pet to try the yeast tablet, what I usually do is to take a frying pan with a little bacon or hamburger grease in it, and then dip the brewer's yeast tablet in the grease. If you lightly coat both sides, then it smells and tastes good to them, and once they crunch into the tablet, they will usually like the taste of it.
